God chose the lowly things of this world
Pastor Maria Gracia

In our Christian walk it’s wonderful to see God work, how his ideas and methods are so different from our own. When developing a project you want to count on the best resources and form a team with the most capable people, how different is our God as he shows us in his word that he converts the useless in useful and as his word says in 1 Corinthians 1:28 “He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are”

In the new and old testament we see how God steps out of the human norms and surprises us with wonderful things; that in our opinion would be the opposite formula we would use to get results.

The following examples explain the point I am trying to make:

  • When the Lord needed a VOICE to speak on his behalf to Pharaoh, he didn’t seek the most eloquent speaker with many words, instead he used someone that stuttered, named Moses and he lead the people of Israel out of slavery.
  • When he needed a WOMAN that would serve as an ally to hide the spies, he didn’t seek a holy, pure woman with a good reputation; he used a prostitute and due to her obedience her and her family were liberated from death
  • When he attended a wedding and they needed WINE, he did not ask for the best grapes but converted water into the best wine that had been served that day
  • When he needed MEN he could teach and entrust to do His work, he didn’t seek, what in our opinion would be the most appropriate “Religious Pharisees”  but he formed a team of simple fisherman, tax collectors and others that we would have rejected because of their sinful nature and lack of preparation

This is why today I exhort you to believe God and understand that he used:

A manger…..to bring the savior of the world
A donkey …… To make a triumphant entrance, to a city that awaited a King
Mud…..to create an eye for a blind man
A few loathes of bread and fish…… To feed a multitude
A storm……to teach faith
His pain……to bring peace
His wounds..….to bring peace
And finally for the greatest victory….. HIS DEATH… to bring eternal life

So if you have doubted if God wants and can use you, consider that He is the same yesterday, today and always… and if in the past He has glorified himself by using the unusual or the useless, the bad to do good and gives sense to what seems to be senseless.  Let it stay clear in your heart that the weaker you think you are, it’s in that weakness that He is perfected so that at all times the glory will be for Him and not for us.
